The LG G5 has emerged as one of the most compelling OLED TVs for bright rooms, thanks to a Primary RGB Tandem panel that pushes OLED brightness well beyond the technology’s traditional limits. What Hi-Fi? says the set is strong enough to stay visible in daylight and to resist glare in rooms with a lot of ambient light, an area where many OLEDs still fall short. That brightness is the G5’s defining technical advantage. According to What Hi-Fi?’s review, the panel’s layered design delivers a striking increase in light output and colour volume, creating a picture that remains punchy even with demanding material such as Top Gun: Maverick. TechRadar’s review was similarly positive, describing the G5 as the brightest OLED it had measured and pointing to an anti-reflection layer that helps preserve picture clarity in well-lit conditions.
Independent testing from RTINGS also backs up the set’s HDR performance, noting that it sustains bright highlights well and keeps luminance strong even when scenes contain larger illuminated areas. That matters for film and TV mastering that targets 600-nit and 1,000-nit peaks, where the G5’s extra headroom can make fine highlight detail easier to see without losing OLED’s hallmark deep blacks.
The G5 is not just about brightness. What Hi-Fi? highlighted a strong gaming specification, including four HDMI 2.1 ports, ALLM, VRR, Dolby Vision Gaming and support for 4K/165Hz from a suitably powerful PC. The set also runs LG’s WebOS platform, with access to major streaming services and Xbox cloud gaming. While newer models such as the LG G6 and Sony Bravia 8 II are now available, the G5 remains a strong value option for buyers who want a high-end OLED that can cope with daytime viewing.
