The upcoming Asus CX9406 Googlebook targets professionals with top-tier specifications, including 64GB of RAM and AI-optimised Intel processors, signalling a shift towards high-performance work laptops over consumer models.
Asus’s forthcoming CX9406 Googlebook appears to be taking shape as a premium, work-focused laptop rather than a mainstream consumer model. According to Notebookcheck, further details have emerged beyond the codename, and the device is expected to use Intel’s Panther Lake platform, with a choice of Core Ultra 5 325 or Core Ultra 7 335 processors and as much as 64GB of LPDDR5X memory. That would place it among the more heavily specified notebooks in its class, although the highest-memory versions are likely to command a steep price.
Intel’s own specifications show that the Core Ultra 5 325 is an eight-core chip with four performance cores and four efficiency cores, a maximum turbo frequency of 4.5GHz and support for up to 128GB of LPDDR5X memory. Intel also positions the processor around AI workloads, with support for Deep Learning Boost and related software frameworks. Even so, the leaked Asus model is not expected to use Intel’s more capable Arc B390 integrated graphics, which suggests Asus is aiming for balanced productivity performance rather than graphics-heavy use.
That fits the broader direction Asus has already shown in its ExpertBook Ultra line. On its press site and product pages, Asus describes that family as a professional notebook series that can be configured with Intel Core Ultra processors, up to 64GB of LPDDR5x memory, PCIe 5.0 solid-state storage and an OLED display. The CX9406 Googlebook may therefore be part of a larger effort by Asus to build a higher-end machine around Google’s next laptop platform, rather than treating it as a stripped-down Chromebook replacement.
Reporting from the GooglebookHub site adds that the CX9406 is linked to the “Lapis” codename and could run Aluminium OS, an Android-based system meant to combine Android and ChromeOS concepts for the new Googlebook range. That same reporting also points to a 14-inch touchscreen, fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard and a mix of USB-C and USB-A ports. If those details prove accurate, Asus’s model would enter a market segment that appears to be forming quickly, with Lenovo and Acer also expected to release similar devices later this year.
