Airtasker introduces a pioneering AI-powered booking system within ChatGPT, enabling users to create, browse, and assign local services instantly without switching apps, marking a significant shift in the gig economy’s use of AI technology.
Airtasker has launched an integration with ChatGPT that allows users to create, browse and assign jobs without leaving the conversation, positioning the company as the first local services marketplace to complete bookings end to end inside the AI interface. The feature removes the usual hand-off between an AI chat and a separate app, so a user can describe what needs doing in plain language and have the system help turn that into a live task.
According to Airtasker, ChatGPT can draft the task description, suggest a budget and help match the user with a Tasker, all within one session. The company said the integration is built on its Remote MCP server, a public endpoint that can connect to AI agents, and that the system covers both sides of the marketplace, including task posting, browsing offers, accepting an offer with payment held securely and viewing a Tasker’s public profile.
Tim Fung, Airtasker’s chief executive and founder, said the aim was to close the gap between getting information from an AI assistant and actually getting work done. He said AI could already help people explain what they need, but could not complete the job itself; the new integration, he said, means the conversation can end with the work arranged rather than with a list of links.
The company also said the service is designed to reduce the friction of starting from a blank page, which can be a barrier when users are trying to write a task from scratch. It added that the most common jobs on the platform are hands-on local services such as removals, handyperson work, trades and cleaning, and said those tasks tend to be worth more than the average marketplace job, suggesting users are more willing to spend when the requirements are clear.
To encourage use of the connector, Airtasker is offering ChatGPT users $50 off tasks posted through the integration, provided the task costs at least $200. The offer runs until 13 September 2026.
