Woot unveils a versatile 75W GaN travel adapter featuring a retractable USB-C cable and international plug options, promising to streamline charging for global travellers with safety and efficiency in mind.
Woot is selling a 75W universal travel adapter that combines GaN fast charging with a retractable USB-C cable, a design aimed at travellers who want to carry fewer chargers and leads. The unit is built to handle laptops, phones, tablets, earbuds and other small electronics from one compact device.
The adapter includes multiple USB-C and USB-A ports, and it can distribute power across connected devices automatically. Like similar 75W travel chargers from Epicka and mfish, it uses gallium nitride, or GaN, technology to keep the unit smaller and more efficient than many older silicon-based chargers. It also folds down to a pocketable size of 2.83 inches by 1.65 inches by 2.12 inches, making it easier to pack in carry-on luggage.
Its plug system covers more than 200 countries and regions, with built-in A, C, G and I plug types for use in the US, Europe, the UK, Australia and several Asian markets. The built-in 75W retractable USB-C cable is meant to remove the need for a separate cord, while the press-and-slide plug selector is designed to make switching between outlet styles quicker. Competing products from AceFast and Epicka show how crowded this category has become, with manufacturers now competing on port count, wattage and safety features as well as size.
Safety hardware includes a fire-resistant shell, dual fuses, child-safe shutters and protection against overheating, overcurrent, overvoltage and short circuits. The adapter is also described as having no surge protection, which can make it suitable for use on many cruise ships, where some electronics with surge suppression are not permitted.
