Google has unveiled the Pixel 11 series, introducing Magic Capture, a revolutionary feature that automatically selects the best stills from video clips, transforming how users capture moments with less effort and enhanced editing capabilities.
Google has added a new image-making feature to its Pixel 11 phones that changes the way users capture moments. At the Made by Google event in New York, the company unveiled Magic Capture, a tool that records video while Gemini scans the sequence and automatically picks the strongest stills. The aim is to remove the familiar trade-off between shooting a clip and getting a usable photograph.
According to Google, the system reviews hundreds of frames from a single action, then selects only a handful for the user. It also refines framing and sharpness without manual editing. Google says it will favour frames where faces are clear, eyes are open or movement is especially expressive. The result is meant to deliver both a video and a set of photos from the same moment, with less effort from the photographer.
The camera package is not limited to Magic Capture. Google is also introducing Camera Looks, which applies film-style aesthetics at the point of capture rather than afterwards, and Camera Coach, which uses Gemini to offer live guidance on composition and lighting. Digital Camera World said the Pixel 11 Pro models bring a 50MP main sensor and a new 48MP telephoto sensor, with the Pro XL offering up to 120x zoom. The standard Pixel 11 is said to use a 48MP main camera with 56% greater light sensitivity than before.
Hands-on reports from TechRadar and Android Central suggest Google is also tightening the broader Pixel design language. The phones are powered by the Tensor G6 chip, which Google says improves AI processing, while the Pro models add a new LED notification system called HiLight. Google has opened pre-orders for the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL, with release set for 20 August 2026, and pricing starting at $899 for the base model. The wider Pixel lineup also includes the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, which sits above the standard phones in both price and specification.
