Orico unveils high-speed USB4 M.2 NVMe external enclosure with thermal management

Orico introduces a USB4-enabled M.2 NVMe external enclosure boasting speeds up to 3,109MB/s, supporting multiple interfaces and featuring advanced heat dissipation for power users needing fast portable storage.

ORICO has launched a USB4 M.2 NVMe external enclosure built around a dual-chip controller, positioning it for users who need fast portable storage for large media files and project work. According to the company’s product materials, the enclosure reached 3,109MB/s in read testing and 2,362MB/s in write testing, figures that put it in the upper tier of 40Gbps-class portable storage. ORICO says the device uses a USB4 Type-C connection and supports Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.x devices, although speeds fall to 10Gbps when it is connected to a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 port.

The enclosure is designed for M-Key NVMe drives in 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280 formats, with support for capacities up to 8TB. ORICO also says the unit supports UASP, TRIM and SMART, features that are intended to improve transfer efficiency, drive health monitoring and sustained performance. The company lists compatibility with Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, along with a Type-C to Type-C/USB-A cable in the box.

Heat management is another part of the pitch. ORICO’s own product pages describe an aluminium body with vents, thermal pads and, on some versions of the enclosure, a cooling fan and metal shielding to help control temperatures during long transfers. The tool-free design is meant to make drive installation and replacement simpler, though ORICO notes that the mounting method now uses screws and insulating washers rather than the plastic spacer arrangement found in earlier designs. A limited-time promotional code was also being offered in Japan, cutting the listed price from ¥15,999 to ¥10,399 between August 14 and August 20, according to the company’s promotion details.
