Insta360 has launched the X6, a flagship 360-degree camera featuring larger sensors, 8K capture, and on-device AI editing, marking a major step forward for the company’s imaging capabilities.
Insta360 has unveiled the X6, a flagship 360-degree camera that pushes the line well beyond a routine refresh. The new model moves to larger dual 1/1.1-inch sensors, faster 8K capture and a more capable processing stack, while also adding an on-device AI system that can assemble edited clips while the camera is charging. TechRadar said the X6 represents one of the biggest steps forward for the company’s 360 range, with clear gains in image quality, low-light performance and workflow speed.
At the heart of the camera is a new triple-chip setup built around a 3.3GHz eight-core processor and two dedicated imaging chips. Insta360 says the sensor size increase brings about 33% more sensor area than the X5 and roughly four times the light intake per frame. The X6 also supports native Dolby Vision, 10-bit colour and the company’s I-Log profile, which gives creators more room for colour grading after shooting. Reviewers have also highlighted 8K recording at up to 50fps as a major upgrade over the previous model.
Insta360 is also pitching the X6 as a three-in-one device. Alongside full 360-degree video that can be reframed later, InstaFrame 2.0 can track people, pets and objects to produce a conventional flat 4K file directly from the camera. In single-lens mode, it works as a more traditional action camera, recording at up to 5K60fps or 4K120fps. The company’s PanoMind system, which it says was trained on more than 10,000 hours of footage, can analyse clips on the camera itself and prepare highlight edits without sending footage to the cloud.
The hardware has been built for harsher use as well. The X6 has a 2,600mAh battery rated for up to 140 minutes of 8K30fps recording, a 2.32-inch OLED display with a claimed 1,200-nit peak brightness, 47GB of usable built-in storage and IP68 resistance to 20 metres without a case. Its replaceable lenses are said to be five times more scratch-resistant. According to Insta360, the camera is on sale now through its own store, Shopee, Lazada and selected retailers, with the Standard Bundle priced at S$939 and the Essentials Bundle at S$1,039. TechRadar and T3 both noted that the X6 sits at the premium end of the 360-camera market, but argued that the extra cost is matched by its versatility and imaging gains.
