Consumer durable stocks reach new high on strong LG Electronics India earnings

Consumer durable stocks surged to a 52-week high, led by LG Electronics India’s robust quarterly results and expansion plans, even as the broader market declined.

Consumer durable stocks advanced on Friday even as the wider market stayed weak, after LG Electronics India reported strong quarterly numbers and set a positive tone for the sector.

LG Electronics India rose 10% to a record ₹1,736.40 on the National Stock Exchange after its June 2026 quarter earnings. Voltas and Bata India gained about 4% each, while Havells India, Amber Enterprises, Dixon Technologies and Titan Company rose as much as 2%.

The Nifty Consumer Durable index climbed to a 52-week high of 40,749.25 during intraday trade, beating its previous peak of 40,631.15 reached on August 3. By 12:30 p.m. on Friday, the index was up 0.80%, while the Nifty 50 had fallen 0.20%. Over the past three months, the consumer durable gauge has risen 15%, far ahead of the benchmark’s 2.7% gain.

LG’s results showed revenue rising 15.5% year on year to ₹7,234 crore, even though it fell 10.2% from the previous quarter because of seasonality. The home appliances division grew 13.6% to ₹5,577 crore, while home entertainment revenue increased 22.3% to ₹1,657 crore. Profit after tax climbed 27% to ₹654 crore, helped by improved product mix and tighter cost control.

ICICI Securities said gross margins held up well despite volatility in commodities and currencies, falling only 19 basis points from a year earlier and improving 286 basis points sequentially. The brokerage said LG’s ₹5,000 crore expansion at Sri City should almost double capacity and support exports over the medium term. The company has also said it is well placed for the festive season, with a broader premium television range and continued demand for washing machines and refrigerators. Voltas, in its annual report, pointed to low room-air-conditioner penetration in India, rising cooling demand and energy-efficient products as structural supports for the sector.
