Tecno's Pova 8 Pro introduces dual-screen display and enhanced gaming features

Tecno has quietly launched the Pova 8 Pro, a mid-range gaming handset featuring a secondary rear display, a 144Hz AMOLED screen, and a powerful MediaTek platform, signalling a new focus on gaming and multimedia versatility.

Tecno has quietly added a new mid-range gaming handset to its Pova line-up, positioning the Pova 8 Pro as a battery-heavy phone with a fast display and an unusual secondary screen on the rear. The model is already listed on Tecno’s official website, although the company has not yet disclosed pricing or broad market availability.

The phone is built around MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 Ultimate platform, paired with up to 12GB of RAM and as much as 512GB of storage. Tecno says a dedicated graphics chip helps the device push higher frame rates in supported titles, including up to 144fps in fast-paced games through frame interpolation. The handset ships with HiOS 16 on Android 16 and will receive two Android version upgrades and three years of security patches, according to Tecno.

Its main display is a 6.78-inch HyperLux AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, 2,644 x 1,208 resolution and a quoted peak brightness of 4,500 nits. Tecno also says the screen supports very fast touch sampling and wet-hand operation, while Gorilla Glass 7i provides protection. On the back, the company has added an Alive Matrix mini-LED display inside the camera island, which can show alerts and visual effects.

The camera setup centres on a 50-megapixel main sensor alongside an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, with a 13-megapixel front camera listed on Tecno’s specification page. That front-camera figure differs from some third-party coverage, which has cited a 16-megapixel selfie sensor, suggesting there may be regional variation or an earlier pre-release specification. Battery life is likely to be a key selling point either way: Tecno lists a 6,500mAh battery with 45W charging, bypass charging and 10W reverse wired charging, plus IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K resistance, stereo speakers tuned with Dolby Atmos, NFC, an infrared blaster and a 5,000mm² vapour chamber for cooling.
