Chuwi's GTBook X disrupts budget gaming with high-powered CPU and RTX 3050

Chuwi has unveiled the GTBook X, a 15.6-inch gaming laptop offering powerful hardware like Intel’s Core 7 230H and Nvidia’s RTX 3050 at an accessible price point of $999, challenging the entry-level gaming market.

Chuwi has launched the GTBook X, a 15.6-inch gaming laptop pitched at buyers who want a capable machine for play, work and study without moving into premium pricing. According to 3DNews, the new model pairs a 144Hz IPS panel with Intel’s Core 7 230H and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3050, and is already on sale for $999.

The company says the graphics chip runs at up to 80W TGP, which is relatively high for an RTX 3050 Laptop GPU and should help sustain performance in light-to-moderate gaming. In Turbo Mode, when connected to the included 180W power adaptor, Chuwi says the combined CPU and GPU draw can reach 140W, with up to 45W allocated to the processor and as much as 95W to the graphics chip through Nvidia Dynamic Boost. That may give the GTBook X more headroom than many low-cost gaming laptops, although the RTX 3050 remains an entry-level discrete GPU by current standards.

The processor is a hybrid Core 7 230H with six performance cores and four efficiency cores, 16 threads and a peak clock of 5.2GHz, together with 24MB of Intel Smart Cache. Cooling is handled by five heat pipes, two high-speed fans and copper radiators, with separate Office, Balance and Turbo operating modes. Chuwi ships the notebook with 16GB of DDR4-3200 memory and a 512GB SSD, but it also allows upgrades through two SO-DIMM slots and two M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 slots, enabling up to 64GB of RAM and additional storage.

Connectivity is broad for the price. Chuwi includes HDMI 2.1, Mini DisplayPort 1.4 with 4K output at 120Hz, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, one USB-A 2.0 port, Gigabit Ethernet, an SD card reader and separate headphone and microphone jacks. The laptop also has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and a full-size RGB keyboard. It runs Windows 11 Pro, measures 360.2 x 243.5 x 23mm, weighs about 2kg and uses a 46.74Wh battery.
