Asus introduces the ExpertBook PM5 G2, a business-focused laptop that combines a 16-inch chassis with a high-resolution, high-refresh IPS screen, setting a new benchmark for office displays without the need for OLED technology.
Asus is pitching the ExpertBook PM5 G2 as a business laptop that stands out less for raw processing power than for its screen. The model combines a 16-inch chassis with AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 and, unusually for this class, a 2,560 x 1,600 IPS panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. Notebookcheck says that makes it a more appealing option than many rival office laptops, which still rely on basic Full HD, 60Hz displays.
That display choice matters because Asus has avoided the compromises that often come with OLED in this segment. According to Notebookcheck, the matte panel keeps reflections under control, while image quality remains strong enough for everyday work. It also reports only slight graininess on bright content, with brightness at a little over 400cd/m², which should be sufficient indoors but is not especially strong for outdoor use.
The panel’s strongest point is contrast. Notebookcheck measured a black level that does not rise unusually high, helping the screen reach a contrast ratio of around 1,500:1. Asus’ own specifications for the ExpertBook P5 G2 family describe the 14-inch and 16-inch AMD models as anti-glare WQXGA laptops with 400-nit panels, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, a 70Wh battery and up to 64GB of DDR5 memory, suggesting the PM5 G2 is aimed squarely at users who want a well-equipped work machine rather than a design-led ultraportable.
