Leaked specifications and benchmark scores suggest Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chip could set a new standard in mobile performance, offering a significant upgrade over its predecessor amid rising manufacturing costs and pricing pressures.
Qualcomm’s next flagship mobile chip is already attracting attention, with leaks suggesting that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro could set a new benchmark for Android performance. The strongest claims point to a large jump over the current generation, arriving at a time when handset makers are also facing rising memory costs and broader pressure on device pricing.
According to leaked documents reported by Gizmochina and GizChina, the Pro model, codenamed SM8975, is expected to use TSMC’s 2nm process and a 2+3+3 CPU layout, combining two prime cores, three performance cores and three efficiency cores. The same reports say the chip would carry an Adreno 850 GPU, 18MB of graphics memory and support for more advanced AI-assisted upscaling features, while also increasing die size compared with the previous generation.
Benchmark chatter has been even more striking. The figure circulating online, linked by Phonandroid to the Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, suggests a total score of 4,835,412 points, which would put the chip more than 20% ahead of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. If accurate, that would make the Pro version not just an incremental refresh but a clear performance tier above Qualcomm’s current flagship.
There is still time before any of this is confirmed. Qualcomm has already scheduled its 2026 Snapdragon Summit for 22 to 24 September in Hawaii, where it is widely expected to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 line. Reporting from Gizmochina suggests both the standard and Pro variants will use TSMC’s 2nm node, with the Pro model positioned as the more ambitious and more expensive option.
