POCO’s upcoming F9 Pro and F9 Ultra phones are redefining the brand’s strategy with higher-end specifications, international market focus, and premium pricing, marking a significant shift from their previous budget-oriented approach.
POCO’s next F-series phones appear to mark a clear shift in the brand’s strategy. According to El Nacional, the company is preparing the F9 Pro and F9 Ultra for Europe, positioning them less as aggressive bargain flagships and more as near-premium devices with pricing to match. Recent coverage of POCO’s latest global launch shows the same family taking shape around Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform, Bose-tuned audio and a more polished industrial design, which together suggest a move upmarket rather than a simple specification race.
That upgrade is not limited to performance. The new models are said to ship with 256GB to 512GB of storage and 12GB or 16GB of RAM, placing them firmly in high-end territory. The Ultra variant is also expected to carry a rear notification light ring, while both phones retain stereo speakers tuned with Bose. Reports on the global launch describe the devices as closely related to Redmi K90-series models sold in China, with POCO adapting the hardware for international markets.
Battery capacity, however, is one area where the European versions look less ambitious than their Chinese equivalents. El Nacional reported that the Chinese models approach 10,000mAh, but the European F9 Pro is expected to settle at 6,330mAh and the F9 Ultra at 8,050mAh. That still leaves the Ultra with a large cell by flagship standards, but it is a meaningful reduction and may disappoint buyers who prioritise endurance above all else.
The camera systems also help explain why POCO is moving closer to premium pricing. The F9 Pro is said to combine a 50-megapixel main camera with an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 50-megapixel telephoto unit offering 3x optical zoom. The Ultra steps up to a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and adds a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 5x zoom, while the front camera is listed at 32 megapixels on both models. With European pricing expected to start at €799 for the F9 Pro and reach €999 for the F9 Ultra, the line no longer fits neatly into the old “flagship killer” category.
