Paid ChatGPT users can now access, edit, and manage Google Drive files directly within the chat, streamlining workflow and reducing back-and-forth between apps.
ChatGPT is widening its Google Drive support for paying users, allowing them to bring files into the chatbot, ask questions about them and edit supported documents without leaving the conversation. The change is designed to reduce the back-and-forth between ChatGPT and Google’s own apps when working on material stored in Drive.
According to OpenAI product lead Adam Fry, users can attach Drive files by selecting the plus button next to the prompt box and choosing “Add from Library”. Once added, ChatGPT can use those files as context for summaries, questions and other document-based tasks. Fry later said the system edits the live file in Google Drive rather than producing a separate copy, which makes it more practical for users who want to continue working in the same document across services.
OpenAI’s help documentation says the Google Drive connector is available through ChatGPT’s app and connector settings, with setup paths for individual users and for enterprise administrators. It also says the integration covers Google Docs, Sheets and Slides actions, while preserving existing access controls so ChatGPT only reaches files a user is already authorised to view.
The Drive update arrived alongside other recent ChatGPT features aimed at making the product more useful inside the chat window. Fry said the service can now generate quizzes from prompts such as “Quiz me on [topic]”, while other additions include restaurant booking support through Yelp and higher-quality recommendation results for paid users from the ChatGPT home page. Together, the changes point to a broader push to keep users inside ChatGPT for study, research and everyday planning.
