Insta360’s X6 elevates the company’s 360-degree range to new heights, featuring larger Sony sensors, native 8K recording, AI-powered processing, and versatile shooting modes that appeal to professional creators demanding higher image quality and workflow flexibility.
Insta360’s X6 pushes the company’s 360-degree line further into premium territory, with reviewers and leaked specifications pointing to larger dual Sony sensors, 8K recording at 50 frames per second, and heavier use of AI-assisted processing. The camera is being positioned as a hybrid tool rather than a simple 360 model, with the ability to shoot conventional flat video as well as stitched panoramic footage. Tom’s Guide, TechRadar and T3 all describe it as a substantial step up from the X5, especially for users who care about image quality and workflow flexibility.
At the centre of the upgrade is a pair of 1/1.1-inch Sony sensors, which are said to provide a noticeably larger capture area than the previous generation. The X6 also uses a triple-chip processing setup, combining a 4nm AI processor with two image processors. That hardware supports native 8K 360-degree video, 120-megapixel stills and 10-bit recording with H.265 compression, while Dolby Vision and I-Log are also available for more controlled grading. Industry coverage has also pointed to a maximum bitrate of 240Mbps and an ISO range from 100 to 6,400.
Insta360 has also added software features intended to reduce editing time. InstaFrame 2.0 records directly in a flat 4K format, while subject tracking can lock onto a chosen target after a tap. The single-lens mode reaches 5K at 60fps, and an ultra-wide 170-degree flat-video option is available. Digital Camera World noted that the camera is also backed by a new AI Director function, which can automatically assemble selected clips after upload, alongside familiar shooting modes such as PureVideo, Timelapse, TimeShift, Bullet Time, Loop, Starlapse and FreeFrame Video.
The hardware specification is similarly ambitious. The X6 carries a 2,600mAh battery, which Insta360 says is good for up to 140 minutes of 8K/30fps recording in Endurance mode. Fast charging to 80 per cent in 24 minutes and a full charge in 35 minutes are also claimed with a 30W PPS charger. The camera includes 64GB of internal storage, of which 47GB is usable, plus microSD expansion, and it is rated for water resistance to 20 metres. Reviewers also highlight Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C 3.1, a six-axis gyroscope and replaceable lenses, underlining Insta360’s effort to make the X6 both tougher and more practical for creators.
