Leaked reports suggest the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series could see price hikes of up to Rs 20,000 in India, driven by increasing component costs and sophisticated hardware upgrades, marking a disruptive shift in Apple’s flagship line-up.
Apple’s next Pro iPhones are already being discussed in the market, even though the company has not announced them. Reports suggest the iPhone 18 Pro line-up is likely to arrive in Apple’s usual September window in 2026, alongside a first foldable iPhone, while the standard iPhone 18 and a second-generation iPhone Air may slip to 2027. That would leave the Pro models as the main focus of this year’s launch cycle.
The biggest question is price. Indian outlets have cited estimates that put the iPhone 18 Pro at about Rs 1,39,900, roughly Rs 5,000 above the iPhone 17 Pro’s launch price of Rs 1,34,900. Other reports suggest a larger increase of Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000, depending on storage and market. The 256GB model has been tipped at around Rs 1,44,900, with the Pro Max potentially starting near Rs 1,54,900. If accurate, that would push the entry Pro model close to the Rs 1.4 lakh mark in India.
The pressure is being driven by component costs, particularly memory. Counterpoint Research has said the bill of materials for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, especially in a 12GB-and-1TB configuration, could rise sharply as global memory shortages linked to AI demand push up prices. Tom’s Guide reported that consumer pricing may then rise by $250 to $350, while The Wall Street Journal has estimated that Apple may need to charge at least $1,399 for the base Pro model if it wants to preserve margins. Apple could soften the blow through supplier negotiations or by pushing its upgrade programme, but neither approach is guaranteed.
Even with higher prices, the Pro models are expected to bring substantial hardware changes. Leaks point to an A20 Pro chip built on TSMC’s 2nm process, 12GB of RAM, a smaller Dynamic Island, brighter LTPO+ displays and a larger battery in the Pro Max. Camera upgrades are also expected, including a variable-aperture 48-megapixel main camera and a new Samsung stacked sensor. Apple is additionally said to be working on its C2 modem and broader satellite features, with design changes likely to be limited.
For now, all of this remains speculative. Apple has not confirmed the iPhone 18 Pro range, its specifications or its India pricing. But the direction of travel is clear: if the leaked component and manufacturing costs prove accurate, the next Pro iPhones could be more expensive than their predecessors, and materially so.
