XTREM launches a MagSafe-compatible iPhone case featuring a battery-free E-Ink display that allows users to instantly change and customise images, blending personalisation with practical protection.
XTREM has launched a MagSafe iPhone case that replaces the usual static back cover with a small E-Ink display, allowing users to change the image shown on the case within seconds. The concept, first outlined on the Gadget Flow product page, is built around a battery-free screen that retains an image after it has been updated, so it does not need continuous power to keep displaying content.
According to the manufacturer’s product listing, image changes are handled through the G-SHELL app over Bluetooth, letting users push a photo to the case without cables. The same system can also pair two cases so that an image sent from one device appears on the other, while built-in tools such as Remix Booth and Duo Photo Style let users stylise a picture or combine two images into one design.
Notebookcheck reported that the case uses a 4-inch E-Ink panel with 212 pixels per inch and support for four colours, while Giznewsdaily said the display is powered by NFC rather than an internal battery. Both outlets also noted that the case keeps MagSafe compatibility and does not block the phone’s own NFC functions, which means contactless payments should continue to work normally.
The design is not purely cosmetic. XTREM says the case uses a patented frame and reinforced corners, with protection claimed for drops of up to 20 feet. The product listing also points to working cut-outs for buttons and ports, while Notebookcheck highlighted a dedicated camera control button. Tom’s Guide, which tested the case, said it offers a rare mix of personalisation and practical protection, though availability is still limited to selected iPhone models, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 families. XTREM’s own store lists the case at $74 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with colour options including Nova White, Noir Black and Cosmic Orange.
