ZTE is set to launch the nubia Neo 5 Max in Malaysia, featuring a 7.5-inch display, shoulder trigger buttons, and a focus on mid-range gaming performance, signalling a new surge in oversized gaming phones.
ZTE is preparing to bring the nubia Neo 5 Max to Malaysia, adding another oversized gaming-focused phone to the mid-range segment. The device has been teased with a 7.5-inch 1.5K display, shoulder trigger buttons and a price tag of RM1,599 on Shopee, although local official pricing has not yet been confirmed.
The Neo 5 Max sits within nubia’s Neo 5 series, which ZTE introduced at MWC Barcelona 2026. The company positioned the line as a gaming range built around large displays, long battery life, fast triggers and enhanced cooling, with the Max model serving as the larger sibling in the family. ZTE has also described the series as having AI Game Space and AI Copilot Demi 2.0, alongside a design aimed at younger mobile gamers.
On the specification side, the Malaysian teaser points to a MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset, a 7,100mAh dual-cell battery, 45W flash charging and bypass charging. ZTE has also highlighted a 30,000mm2 cooling chamber, 990Hz Neo Trigger shoulder buttons, Magic Touch 3.0, dual speakers, RGB lighting and IP64 resistance. The camera system is said to use a 50MP main sensor, a 2MP secondary sensor and a 16MP front camera.
That combination suggests a device tuned more for endurance and gaming controls than for flagship performance. Notebookcheck reported that the globally unveiled Neo 5 Max was fitted with an unreleased Dimensity 7080 chip, while ZTE’s Malaysia teaser points to the Dimensity 7100 instead. Either way, the phone appears aimed at mid-range gaming rather than top-end graphics workloads, which should make it suitable for popular titles but less convincing for sustained maximum settings in heavier games.
