Sony has expanded its Cinema Line in Indonesia with the FX5, a high-end full-frame camera designed for professional filmmakers, featuring open gate recording, internal RAW options, and advanced autofocus technology.
Sony has expanded its Cinema Line in Indonesia with the FX5, a new full-frame camera aimed at professional video work. VIVA reported that the body price is set at Rp95 million in Indonesia, placing it firmly in the high-end segment for filmmakers and production teams. According to Sony’s own launch material, the model is intended to bridge compact handling with advanced cinema features.
The FX5 centres on a full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor and Sony’s BIONZ XR2 image processor, backed by a dedicated AI unit for subject detection and autofocus. Sony says the camera can deliver more than 15 stops of dynamic range when shooting in S-Log3, while its triple base ISO system of 800, 4000 and 12800 is designed to improve low-light performance and reduce noise.
One of the headline additions is Open Gate recording, which captures the full 3:2 sensor area and gives editors more flexibility for cropping and delivery formats. Sony also says the FX5 is the first camera in the FX range to offer internal X-OCN RAW recording, including the lighter C1 and C2 variants intended to ease storage and transfer demands. The company quotes recording support of up to 5K at 60fps, 4K at 120fps and Full HD at 240fps.
Beyond capture specifications, the FX5 is built as a compact, flat-top body with 5-axis in-body stabilisation and Dynamic Active Mode for handheld work. Sony’s launch places it between the FX3 and FX6, and third-party retail listings in the US and UK suggest it is being positioned as a modular cinema tool for independent professionals who want high-end features without moving to a larger rig. Some outlets have also noted that certain functions may arrive through later firmware updates, underscoring that the platform is still evolving.
