Poco's new M8x 5G set to compete in ultra-affordable smartphone segment with 6000mAh battery and large display

Poco is unveiling the M8x 5G in India, targeting budget-conscious consumers with a massive 6,000mAh battery, large 6.9-inch display, and 5G support, available via Flipkart for under Rs. 20,000.

POCO is preparing to add the M8x 5G to its Indian smartphone range, with the company already teasing the handset’s design and confirming that it will be sold through Flipkart. The launch date remains under wraps, but early information suggests a device aimed squarely at the sub-Rs. 20,000 bracket, where a large display and a big battery remain key selling points. According to the leak attributed to Yogesh Brar, POCO is positioning the phone as a value-focused 5G model rather than a premium mid-ranger.

The expected specification set points to a 6.9-inch HD+ IPS LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, with expandable memory also tipped. A 6,000mAh battery and 33W wired charging are said to be on board, while the software is expected to be Android 16-based HyperOS 3. If accurate, that would make the M8x 5G a fairly conservative package on paper, but one designed around endurance and smooth everyday use rather than higher-end imaging or display quality.

The leaked pricing also appears calibrated to the entry end of the market. The phone is said to cost below Rs. 20,000, which would place it beneath the POCO M8 5G’s starting price of Rs. 21,999 as reported by Gizmochina, while the newly launched Poco M8 5G itself uses a 6.77-inch AMOLED panel, Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip and a 5,520mAh battery. That comparison suggests POCO is preparing a separate, more affordable branch of the M8 line, with the M8x 5G trading display quality and higher-end silicon for a larger battery and a lower asking price.

POCO’s own teaser shows the M8x 5G in green with a textured flat rear, a square camera island and gold-toned detailing around the frame and module. The company has not yet disclosed camera specifications, colour options or sale dates, but the Flipkart listing confirms the channel through which the handset will reach buyers in India. If the leaked details prove accurate, the M8x 5G will be aimed at shoppers who prioritise battery life, 5G support and a large high-refresh-rate screen over a more polished panel or a stronger camera system.
