Leaked details suggest the upcoming OnePlus 16 will feature a custom BOE X4 luminescent display with improved longevity, efficiency, and ultra-thin bezels, signalling a bold leap in flagship smartphone design and performance.
OnePlus appears to be preparing a significant display upgrade for its next flagship, with a custom BOE X4 luminescent material said to be tailored for the OnePlus 16. According to NokiaPowerUser, the panel is being positioned as a direct challenge to Samsung Display’s current flagship OLED materials, with claims of lower power consumption, longer panel life and a more refined bezel design.
Leaked specifications reported by Gizmochina and other outlets suggest the phone will use a 6.78-inch flat BOE LTPO panel with 1.5K resolution. The same reports point to LIPO packaging, a method used to reduce the space taken up by display circuitry, which would help OnePlus push the bezels to around 1mm on all four sides. That would place the handset among the most symmetrical designs in the premium Android market.
The refresh-rate story has been less consistent. Earlier leaks cited by Gizmochina referred to a 240Hz panel, while later reports from 91Mobiles and Smartprix said OnePlus had settled on 185Hz instead. If accurate, that would still be unusually high for a smartphone and would mainly benefit fast scrolling and gaming, though the practical advantage over lower-refresh flagship panels would depend on software support and battery tuning.
BOE’s wider display progress also adds context. SamMobile reported that the company has shown an OLED prototype claiming stronger colour reproduction than current Samsung and LG panels, with wider BT.2020 coverage in lab testing. Separately, ChinaTechNews said BOE has accelerated OLED production at its Chengdu B16 factory, underscoring how quickly the company is scaling beyond mobile. Even so, the real test for the OnePlus 16 will be whether these panel claims translate into consistent brightness, efficiency and durability in retail devices rather than controlled demonstrations.
