Lexar’s NQ790 in 2TB configuration becomes more attractive as its lower cost per gigabyte and higher endurance make it the ideal choice for creators and gamers handling large files and intensive workloads.
Lexar’s NQ790 has become more appealing in its larger 2 TB configuration, with the current pricing narrowing the value gap between capacities. According to HWUpgrade, the 1 TB model is offered at €149.99 and the 2 TB model at €237.49, but the higher-capacity version works out at a lower cost per gigabyte and also doubles the write endurance. For buyers who are filling a gaming library, editing media or handling large project files, that makes the bigger drive the more efficient purchase.
The NQ790 is a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD in the M.2 2280 format, so it is intended for modern desktop systems, compatible notebooks and PlayStation 5 consoles. Lexar’s product material says both the 1 TB and 2 TB versions are rated for sequential read speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 6,000 MB/s, with PCIe Gen4x4 and NVMe 1.4 providing the underlying interface. The company also lists a five-year limited warranty.
Lexar’s specification sheet shows endurance of 600 TBW for the 1 TB model and 1,200 TBW for the 2 TB version, which is a meaningful distinction for users who write heavily and regularly move large files. The drive uses NAND flash with a dynamic SLC cache and Host Memory Buffer rather than dedicated DRAM, a design that reserves a small amount of system memory to help manage mapping tables. Lexar says the NQ790 can support over 400 GB of pseudo-SLC cache, depending on operating conditions.
For most mainstream buyers, the 1 TB model remains the cheaper entry point. But the 2 TB version is the stronger choice where long-term value matters, because it combines more usable capacity, lower cost per gigabyte and higher endurance. That makes it better suited to creators, frequent installers and anyone treating the SSD as a primary storage pool rather than a secondary upgrade.
