Google introduces the screenless Fitbit Air in India, offering a low-cost, subscription-free fitness tracker designed for continuous health monitoring without distraction, challenging established players like Whoop and Garmin.
Google has launched Fitbit Air in the United States and is preparing to bring the screenless fitness band to India. The device is designed for users who want continuous health tracking without a display, and it can be worn on its own or alongside an analogue watch or smartwatch. Telecom Talk noted that the product has already appeared in some Indian online listings, but advised buyers to wait for an official local sale to secure proper warranty support.
The band is built around a lightweight sensor module rather than a traditional watch face. According to Google’s own announcement, Fitbit Air tracks core health data around the clock, including heart rate, sleep and blood oxygen levels, while feeding the results into the Google Health app. Business Standard reported that Google is also positioning the device as a minimalist wellness tool, with the company emphasising comfort and low-distraction use.
A key difference from Whoop is the pricing model. Bloomberg reported that Fitbit Air costs $100 in the US, with an optional $10 monthly Google Health subscription for additional features. By contrast, Whoop relies on a subscription-led model with no upfront hardware charge in many cases. Wareable and TechRadar both noted that this makes Fitbit Air more straightforward for buyers who want the essential tracking functions without committing to recurring fees.
That free-first approach could be important in India, where Google appears to be targeting a crowded segment that already includes Whoop, Garmin, Amazfit and Noise. The company claims the standard feature set remains available without a subscription, which may make the device easier to compare on value rather than on service bundles. For buyers, the practical question will be whether a screenless tracker with optional extras offers enough over cheaper bands or more fully featured smartwatches.
