Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces lighter design and enhanced display innovations

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 combines a lightweight build with upgraded display technology, stronger materials, and advanced camera features, setting a new standard for foldable smartphones.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 is a clear attempt to make a foldable that behaves more like an ordinary phone when closed, while still offering tablet-style space when opened. The device weighs 201 grams and measures 4.5mm when unfolded, making it the lightest foldable Samsung has released so far. Its 7.6-inch main display uses a 4:3 format, while the 5.5-inch cover screen is shaped for quick scrolling and messaging rather than compromise use. Samsung says both panels can reach 3,000 nits of peak brightness.

The company has also focused on the hinge and display stack, with Flex Titanium reinforcement designed to reduce the visible crease that has long defined foldables. Samsung’s latest materials include Armor Aluminium and Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the front, with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the rear. The phone also carries an IP48 rating, which means it is built to handle limited dust exposure and splashes, rather than full water submersion.

Inside, the Galaxy Z Fold8 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and as much as 1TB of storage. Samsung says the battery is 4,800mAh and supports 45W wired charging, with 20W wireless charging listed in its press materials. That places the Fold8 among the more powerful and better-equipped foldables on the market, with performance and battery life intended to support gaming, multitasking and long viewing sessions.

Samsung has also upgraded the imaging system around a dual 50MP rear camera array, with features aimed at both still photography and video. The company highlights low-light recording up to 8K, along with Galaxy AI tools such as Photo Assist, which can alter images using text prompts, and Dual Recording, which combines footage from front and rear cameras. According to Samsung’s launch details, the Fold8 went on sale in the US from August 7, 2026, with pricing starting at $1,899.
