A year after its launch, Google’s Pixel 10 Pro XL is gaining new features through frequent updates, but persistent bugs and reliability concerns are raising questions about its software stability and overall trustworthiness.
A year after launch, Google’s Pixel 10 Pro XL looks like a more capable phone than it did on day one, but its second act has been defined as much by software instability as by useful new features. Android Central says the device has gained meaningful functionality through Google’s quarterly Pixel Drops and monthly security patches, yet repeated update faults have also damaged confidence in the series.
The biggest concern has been reliability. Android Central reported that the Pixel 10 line suffered from persistent graphical glitches, followed by touch responsiveness problems, battery drain and, in one update, broken Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. In March 2026, Google released another patch aimed at fixing display and interface problems, startup crashes and incorrect battery reporting on wireless chargers, but users then described more serious failures, including devices stuck in bootloops. Google later acknowledged the bootloop issue and promised a dedicated fix.
That pattern has led to a broader criticism of Google’s release rhythm. Android Central argues that the company’s monthly update cycle leaves too little time for proper testing, especially when the same devices are expected to carry security fixes, platform refinements and feature changes at pace. The result, according to that view, is that Pixels can feel unfinished long after launch, even when the software is delivering welcome improvements.
Those improvements have been substantial. Google removed some early ideas that did not land well, including Pixel Daily Hub, and later replaced them with Gemini Daily Brief, which Android Central described as more useful, if not Pixel-exclusive. The company also dropped Pixel Studio, its AI image creation tool, shortly before Apple unveiled a similar feature for iOS 27, underscoring how quickly Google’s feature set has shifted.
At the same time, Pixel 10 owners have seen a steady stream of additions. Android Central notes the arrival of Material 3 Expressive, AI-generated notification summaries, Pixel Theme Packs, custom AI-generated icons, desktop mode, a notification organiser, Gemini automation, lock screen widgets and Comfort View Filters. 9to5Google also reported that the March 2026 Pixel Feature Drop introduced Comfort view and custom AI-generated icons, both aimed at accessibility and personalisation. Google’s July 2026 patch then brought more bug fixes across Pixel models, including a fix for a navigation button issue on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the first post-Android 17 stability update.
The overall picture is mixed but clear: the Pixel 10 Pro XL is now richer in features than it was at launch, yet the same update machinery that keeps it improving has also made it harder to trust. For buyers weighing a Pixel 10 against waiting for the Pixel 11, Android Central’s conclusion is blunt: the older phone may be the safer purchase, because many of the next model’s headline features are likely to arrive later through software anyway.
