Bhagwati Products Limited is planning a Rs 1,015 crore investment to expand display production and precision moulding capabilities, reflecting India’s broader push to boost domestic electronics manufacturing and reduce reliance on imports.
Bhagwati Products Limited, the Micromax Informatics manufacturing arm, is preparing to invest Rs 1,015 crore in display production and precision moulding, according to the company. The Ministry of Electronics and IT has approved both projects under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, underscoring a wider push to build more domestic capability in parts that are still largely imported.
The larger of the two investments, worth Rs 450 crore, will run through TXD India Technology Private Limited after Bhagwati bought a 51% stake in the company and secured Press Note 3 approval. Bhagwati said mobile phone displays will be made at TXD India’s existing plant in Bawal, Haryana, with an initial monthly capacity of 1.5 million units. The company expects to lift that to three million to four million displays a month over time, before extending the line into automotive displays. Corporate records reviewed by third-party company databases show TXD India is already established in Bawal, with an existing manufacturing base and a relatively small workforce, which suggests Bhagwati is using an operating site rather than building entirely from scratch.
A further Rs 565 crore will go into precision moulding at Bhagwati’s Greater Noida facility. The company said both projects are expected to begin production this year and could help take its total headcount beyond 10,000. The move fits with Bhagwati’s broader expansion: separate reports this year said the company had crossed Rs 17,000 crore in revenue and was widening its focus beyond smartphones into components, engineering, connected devices and automotive electronics. That shift points to a business trying to move further up the value chain as India seeks to deepen its electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
