Fairphone launches the Gen. 6+ with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip and increased RAM, emphasising longer device lifespan and responsible sourcing, while maintaining repairability and eco-friendly features.
Fairphone has unveiled the Gen. 6+, an updated version of its latest smartphone that focuses on faster performance, more memory and deeper customisation while keeping the same repair-first design philosophy. The company says the new model builds on the Fairphone Gen. 6, which it described as its strongest expression yet of a responsible handset, and responds directly to customer demand for more power and flexibility. According to Fairphone, the device is intended to extend usable life rather than chase short-term specification gains.
The main change is under the bonnet. Fairphone has moved to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip and increased memory from 8GB to 12GB of DDR5 RAM, which it says improves multitasking and day-to-day responsiveness. The company also says app loading and switching are up by as much as 24%, while system RAM reservation time is down by up to 20%. The phone ships with Android 16 and is due six operating system upgrades over its lifetime, with software support promised through 2033.
The rest of the package remains close to the original Gen. 6. Fairphone says the Gen. 6+ keeps the modular construction with 12 user-replaceable parts, a five-year warranty, 256GB of storage expandable to 2TB via microSD, a triple-camera system led by a 50MP Sony Lytia 700c sensor, a 6.3in LTPO OLED display, battery life of up to 53 hours and IP55 protection against dust and water. Fairphone’s earlier Gen. 6 model used the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip and 8GB of RAM, so the new version is a measured hardware revision rather than a redesign.
Fairphone is also using the launch to add a new Cobalt Blue finish alongside Horizon Black and Forest Green. The company says the colour choice nods to its origins in campaigning for conflict mineral awareness and its wider push for more responsibly sourced materials. It says the handset is made with 51% fair and recycled materials by total weight, is assembled under fair working conditions using renewable energy, supports its living wage bonus programme and is certified as 100% e-waste neutral. Existing owners of the Gen. 6 will also receive software additions, including expanded control over Fairphone Moments and a new local gallery app.
