As Google unveils the Pixel Watch 5 with minimal changes, alternatives like the Pixel Watch 4 and OnePlus Watch 3 offer compelling value, combining design, battery life, and price for discerning Android users.
Google’s latest Pixel Watch generation arrives with a premium price tag, but there are cheaper Wear OS options for Android users who want many of the same core features without paying top-tier money. TechRadar’s Matt Evans points to the OnePlus Watch 3 and the Pixel Watch 4 as the strongest alternatives for buyers who want a capable smartwatch rather than the newest Google model. According to Android Central, the Pixel Watch 5 is an incremental release that largely keeps the same design and hardware as the Pixel Watch 4, which makes last year’s model easier to recommend on value alone.
The OnePlus Watch 3 is the more obvious bargain for anyone who prioritises battery life and a conventional watch design. OnePlus uses a titanium and stainless steel case with a more traditional sports-watch appearance, and the company says the dual operating system lets the watch last for up to 120 hours. In practice, Wear OS handles the smart functions while a lower-power system takes over in the background, which is a sensible compromise for users who want a fuller smartwatch experience without nightly charging.
By contrast, the Pixel Watch 4 remains the closest thing to Google’s own flagship at a lower cost. Google’s store lists a domed Actua 360 display with 3,000 nits of peak brightness, a larger active screen area, slimmer bezels and up to 40 hours of battery life on the 45mm model. It also brings faster charging through a new side-mounted dock. Android Central notes that the watch launched at $349 for the 41mm version and $399 for the 45mm model, with extra charges for LTE and satellite features, which keeps it materially cheaper than a newer flagship while preserving most of the Pixel experience.
The main trade-off is that the Pixel Watch 4 lacks some of the newer refinements reserved for the latest model. Android Central says the Pixel Watch 5 keeps the same overall design and display approach, with only small cosmetic changes, while another report says it continues with the same chip family rather than moving to a newer Qualcomm platform. That means the older Pixel model still offers strong value, but the OnePlus Watch 3 remains the better pick for endurance, while the Pixel Watch 4 is the better choice for buyers who want Google’s design language and software at a reduced price.
