Understanding which apps drain your phone’s battery and adjusting their settings can significantly extend device endurance. Experts recommend inspecting battery usage and modifying app behaviour to get the most out of your device’s power capacity.
A large battery does not automatically mean long endurance. As Mediafax reported, the real problem is often the combined load created when several common apps are active at once, especially those that keep the screen, processor and network busy. The apps most likely to do that include YouTube, Chrome, Google Maps, Gmail and Google Home.
The first step is to check what is actually using power before changing settings. On Android, that means opening Settings, then Battery, then Battery usage. On iPhone, the route is Settings, then Battery. That view shows which apps are drawing the most energy and helps separate normal use from excessive background activity.
YouTube is one of the most demanding apps, particularly when video is played in high quality. According to Il Messaggero, auto-play previews in the feed can be switched off in the app’s settings, while lowering video resolution on mobile data can also reduce drain. Chrome can also be heavy because it synchronises history, passwords and tabs across devices and may preload pages for faster loading. Google’s own Chrome help page says users can adjust performance settings, including battery-saving options and controls over how tabs behave.
Google Maps is most power-hungry during live navigation, when the phone must keep location services active and constantly recalculate the route. Android Authority and other technical guides recommend downloading offline maps before travelling, which reduces the need for continuous data and GPS use. Gmail can also become costly when multiple accounts are connected and every new alert wakes the screen. Limiting notifications to higher-priority messages can help. Google Home may use location data to determine whether a user is at home, and that permission can be reviewed if the app appears to be contributing to unnecessary drain.
In practice, the key is to inspect the battery panel first and then change only the settings that match the apps consuming the most power. That approach is more effective than broadly restricting every app in the background, and it reduces the chance of weakening features that are genuinely useful.
