Fairphone introduces its latest modular and repairable smartphone, the Gen 6 Plus, to the US market, emphasising long-term software support, sustainability, and field repairability in its first direct US release.
Fairphone has brought its latest modular handset to the US under a slightly refreshed name, marking the company’s first direct American launch. The Fairphone Gen 6 Plus is now being sold through Fairphone’s own website and Amazon, and unlike earlier US versions supplied through Murena, it ships with standard Google software rather than the /e/OS fork. Fairphone says the phone is also supported on AT&T and T-Mobile networks.
The company has built its reputation on repairability and longer product lifecycles, and the Gen 6 Plus continues that approach. Fairphone says up to 12 components can be swapped with a single screwdriver, including the battery, USB-C port, display and cameras. Replacement parts start at $7.99 for the SIM tray and rise to $89.99 for the screen, underlining that the device is designed for field repairs rather than service-centre dependence.
Fairphone is also leaning on software support as a selling point. The Gen 6 Plus is promised updates until 2033, with at least six Android version upgrades, matching the company’s long support window for the earlier Gen 6. Fairphone’s own materials also point to a five-year warranty and a strong emphasis on sustainability, including recycled and fair-sourced materials, worker programmes and e-waste neutrality.
In hardware terms, the US model moves on from the earlier Gen 6 with a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip and 12GB of RAM, while retaining much of the same design. It has a 6.31-inch LTPO OLED display, 256GB of storage, a 4,415mAh battery with 30W wired charging, eSIM support, a microSD slot and an IP55 rating. The camera array remains centred on a 50MP main sensor, alongside a 13MP ultrawide and a 32MP front camera. Fairphone is pricing the handset at $649 in the US and £569 in the UK, with accessories such as lanyards, finger loops and card holders also arriving in the American market.
