Fresh code leaks suggest Apple is preparing a significant update to its smart home ecosystem, including new hardware like the HomePad, HomePod mini 2, and a potential security camera, likely arriving with the next iPhone and Apple Watch launch.
Apple’s long-rumoured home overhaul is looking more concrete after a fresh code leak appeared to expose several unreleased devices. According to MacRumors, the newly released macOS 26.7 release candidate contains references to multiple products linked to Apple’s smart home plans, suggesting the company is preparing a wider refresh than the usual incremental update cycle. The timing also fits with earlier reporting that Apple is planning to unveil new home hardware alongside its next major iPhone and Apple Watch launches.
At the centre of the leak is the so-called HomePad, which appears to exist in two versions: J490, thought to be the model with a base, and J491, the version intended for wall mounting. MacRumors says the code also points to a HomePod mini 2, identified as B525, which would follow the current HomePod mini’s B520 codename. A separate reference, J229, is believed to be a new Home accessory, most likely Apple’s rumoured security camera.
The same codebase also includes HomeAccessory17,2 and HomeAccessory17,3, which may indicate additional home devices not yet publicly described. Another string, ATVRemote1,5, appears to refer to the next Siri Remote for a new Apple TV 4K. MacRumors additionally says it found a “Pebble” reference that is believed to be the codename for homeOS, Apple’s likely software platform for the new range.
That picture broadly matches earlier reporting from MacRumors, which said Apple is developing a 7-inch smart home hub with both wall-mount and speaker-base options. The speaker base has been described as a hemispherical design reminiscent of the iMac G4, while a separate report suggested the broader home lineup has been delayed by Apple’s work on a more capable Siri. MacRumors has also said the new home devices are expected to arrive before the end of the year, aligning them with iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27.
The leak adds a few small but useful details. MacRumors says four colours were tied to an unspecified Home accessory: Rose Pink, Silver, Space Grey and Starlight. That points to Apple already exploring retail-ready variants rather than only lab-stage prototypes. Separate reporting from Macworld has also suggested the next HomePod mini could gain an S10 chip for better performance and wireless reliability, even if it does not bring Apple Intelligence features itself.
