Huawei has unexpectedly launched its HarmonyOS 7.0 update on the Pura X View smartphone ahead of schedule, signalling a shift in its software rollout strategy and expanding the platform’s reach to consumers sooner than anticipated.
Huawei has brought HarmonyOS 7.0 to market earlier than expected, using the new Pura X View as the first phone to launch with the software. The device appeared at Huawei’s Enjoy G9 event, surprising industry watchers who had expected the stable version to arrive with the Mate 90 family next month. It is not yet clear whether the handset ships with a final build or a public beta release.
HarmonyOS 7 was unveiled at Huawei’s developer conference in June, where the company highlighted a refreshed visual language, stronger artificial intelligence integration and new security tools aimed at reducing fraud. Huawei said the platform is designed to make use across phones, tablets, PCs, wearables and connected devices feel more consistent and more responsive, with an upgraded Celia assistant among the main changes.
Huawei has already opened a developer beta programme for HarmonyOS 7 on a limited set of flagship devices, including the Mate 80 Pro, Mate X7, Mate XTs Master, Pura 90 Pro Max, Pura X, Pura X Collector’s Edition and nova 15 Pro. That makes the Pura X View launch notable, because it appears to push the software beyond developer testing and into consumer hardware sooner than the company had indicated.
The new handset also continues Huawei’s push into wide-format designs. The broader Pura X line is built around a 6.3-inch display with a 16:10 ratio, giving it a tablet-like layout in a pocketable form. Earlier reporting described the original Pura X as a vertically folding device with a smaller outer screen for calls and payments, underlining Huawei’s wider effort to differentiate its premium phones through unusual screen formats and its in-house software stack.
According to Huawei Central, pre-orders for the Pura X View are already open online, while in-store reservations and hands-on availability are due to begin on 28 August. That means customers may be able to test the device in authorised shops next week, even as Huawei continues to expand HarmonyOS 7 through beta channels and prepares broader software releases later in the month.
