POCO’s new F8 Ultra blends high-end hardware and innovative features like Bose-tuned sound in a surprisingly affordable package, marking a significant shift in the mid-range smartphone landscape.
POCO’s F8 Ultra is emerging as the brand’s most ambitious handset yet, combining flagship-class hardware with a price below the very top tier. According to recent reviews, it is aimed at buyers who want near-premium performance, a large battery and a more unusual audio setup without moving into the most expensive part of the market. The phone is already being positioned as a stronger choice than the POCO F8 Pro and POCO X8 Pro Max, which sit lower in the range but still deliver close to flagship speeds.
The hardware is clearly the main draw. The F8 Ultra uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. It has a 6.9-inch AMOLED display at 2608 x 1200 pixels with 120Hz refresh, 3,500-nit peak brightness and Dolby Vision support. Reviewers note that the panel is bright, colour-accurate and easy to read outdoors, although it lacks LTPO, so it cannot scale refresh rates as aggressively as some rival flagships.
One of the most distinctive features is the sound system. Notebookcheck and PhoneArena both highlight the Bose-tuned 2.1 speaker arrangement, which adds a dedicated rear subwoofer alongside the usual stereo pair. That gives the phone a more powerful low-end response than most rivals. The device also carries IP68 protection, an aluminium frame, eSIM support, Wi-Fi 7 and USB 3.2 with video output. Reviewers say the denim and fibre-glass finishes help it stand out visually, while the box contents are modest and do not include a charger.
The camera package is competitive rather than class-leading, but still strong for the price. The main caveat is thermal behaviour, as sustained heavy loads can cause throttling and heat build-up.
