Farseer’s RocXZoom is an unusual answer to a familiar problem in wildlife and sports photography: how to reach far without carrying a large lens, tripod and heavy body. According to DPReview, the compact camera combines a 20x optical zoom with 50x hybrid zoom, giving a 40-2000mm equivalent range in a body said to weigh about 400 grams. Reports from CES 2026 also described the product as a handheld device built by former DJI engineers and aimed at users who need long reach without a traditional telephoto setup.
Its main technical draw is the tracking system. DPReview says the RocXZoom uses a physical AI system that can identify subjects, follow their movement and keep them in frame while the camera zooms. For birders, Farseer claims real-time recognition of more than 300 bird species, which adds a layer of identification to the usual capture workflow. That combination is intended to make long-lens framing less dependent on steady hands and constant manual correction.
The camera also leans on stabilisation to make extreme telephoto shooting more practical. DPReview says the RocXZoom pairs a gimbal with electronic image stabilisation, while Farseer’s own site describes the unit as a lightweight 400g model designed for outdoor use such as birdwatching. The camera body is aluminium and carries an IP54 rating, which suggests protection against limited dust ingress and splashing water.
Farseer is offering the RocXZoom in two versions. The standard camera has a list price of $799, with an early Kickstarter price of $449, according to DPReview. A RocXZoom Pro bundle is also listed, with a gimbal package that can attach to an existing camera via a hot shoe mount and add app-based control, tracking support and improved stability. Whether the concept proves genuinely useful will depend less on its headline zoom figure than on how reliably the tracking works in the field.
