Sony has launched the IER-M500, a wired in-ear monitor aimed at musicians, live performers and audio enthusiasts who want a more exacting reference sound. The company says the model has been developed with experienced monitoring engineers and is intended to deliver accurate playback without the colouration often associated with consumer earphones. In Taiwan, it carries a suggested retail price of NT$3,490, with an early-bird offer running until 13 September that gives buyers a NT$300 voucher after registration.
The IER-M500 uses a closed, sealed design and a 5mm dynamic driver, according to Sony’s specifications and product materials. That combination is meant to improve passive isolation in loud environments while preserving detail across vocals, instruments and cue signals. Sony lists a frequency response of 10Hz to 40,000Hz, support for Hi-Res Audio, and a 16-ohm impedance, placing the model firmly in the professional-monitoring category rather than the mainstream wireless market.
Fit and stability are central to the design. Sony says the earphones use its original fitting-support structure, along with multiple sizes of noise-isolating ear tips and flexible ear hangers, to keep the shells secure during performance. The earphones also ship with a clip and carrying case. Sony’s Spanish product page says the model is built for long-term use in demanding conditions, including sweat and humidity during live work.
The company has also highlighted sustainability. Part of the outer shell and some internal components are made from about 35% recycled material, which Sony says helps reduce the use of virgin plastics. The model is available in black, clear and a red-and-blue finish, with left and right channels clearly marked for easier use on stage.
