The company is also positioning the tool for more than personal use. The reports say the integration works alongside OpenAI’s Codex, ChatGPT and Works applications, suggesting a wider productivity role for users who want to search old conversations, draft responses or automate routine message handling.
A short promotional video described by TechCrunch shows a user asking ChatGPT to suggest follow-up messages after reviewing recent contacts. The same material indicates that users may also instruct the system to delete messages, prepare drafts and send them on their behalf.
The privacy implications are likely to attract as much attention as the feature itself. CNET reported that OpenAI has added safeguards, but the overall framework remains unclear. The company says ChatGPT does not build a full index of a user’s messages and that the integration runs on the device itself. Even so, ChatGPT can only read messages if the user gives explicit permission, and setup requires enabling full disk access, which allows the system to read and write files on the device.
