TechxArtisan’s KeyMod redefines portable PC control with smartphone integration and AI capabilities

TechxArtisan introduces KeyMod, a pocket-sized USB multi-tool that transforms smartphones into versatile peripherals for PC management, now featuring expanding connectivity options, future encryption, and AI-driven workflows.

TechxArtisan has expanded its Openterface range with KeyMod, a pocket-sized USB multi-tool that turns an Android or iPhone into a keyboard, mouse, gamepad, presentation remote or SSH terminal for controlling PCs, servers, kiosks, Raspberry Pi boards and other USB hosts. The company says the device builds on the same HID control approach used in its earlier Mini-KVM products, while aiming for a simpler, more portable setup for support work, embedded development and everyday admin tasks.

The range comes in two hardware versions. KeyMod Mini uses a USB-C connector and links to the phone over Bluetooth 5.3, while KeyMod Plus uses a wired USB connection for lower latency and higher bandwidth. TechxArtisan says both models support USB HID keyboard and mouse emulation, including use at BIOS level, and also expose a USB CDC-ECM network bridge for SSH, VNC, SCP, rsync and other TCP-based tools. On macOS and Linux, that network link is recognised without extra drivers, although Windows RNDIS support is still being developed.

According to the company’s documentation, the KeyMod Series is still under active development and the connected KeyCmd app is also evolving. At launch, the app supports text composition and sending, terminal access, automated shortcuts, voice-to-keyboard input via Whisper AI, gamepad control, presentation mode and profile storage for tools such as Blender, VS Code and KiCad. An AI-driven agent mode is also planned, with TechxArtisan describing it as a way to combine terminal commands and HID macros for troubleshooting and embedded workflows.

The hardware is built around a WCH CH32V208 RISC-V microcontroller and is powered directly from the target machine’s USB port, so it does not need its own battery. TechxArtisan says encryption based on 128-bit AES and ECDH P-256 is planned for a future firmware update. The company also says the project will remain open-source, with schematics, PCB files and software due to be published, alongside OSHWA certification. CE and UKCA approval are in progress.

KeyMod is now listed on Crowd Supply with a $15,000 funding target. Both variants are priced at $42, with shipping set at $8 in the US and $18 elsewhere. Mouser Electronics will handle fulfilment, and deliveries are expected to start in February 2027.
