Xiaomi Indonesia unveils Redmi 17 with massive battery and eye-catching RGB rear lights

Xiaomi Indonesia launches the Redmi 17, a budget handset featuring a 7,500mAh battery, a 6.9-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate, and innovative RGB lighting, targeting youthful users seeking durability and style.

Xiaomi Indonesia has launched the Redmi 17, a budget phone aimed at users who want long battery life, a large screen and a few unusual extras. The company is pitching it under the theme “Kuat Menyala”, presenting it as a model built around youthful energy rather than raw specification alone.

The main attraction is power. Xiaomi says the Redmi 17 uses a 7,500mAh battery, which is unusually large for this price bracket, alongside 45W wired charging. The company also claims a full charge takes 96 minutes, while a 50 per cent top-up takes about 45 minutes. It further adds 22.5W reverse charging, allowing the handset to act as a backup power source for other devices.

The display is also sizeable. According to Xiaomi’s product information, the Redmi 17 has a 6.9-inch panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection and a 1,600 x 720 resolution. The company says the screen can reach 800 nits of peak brightness and includes eye-care features. A dynamic RGB light system on the rear is meant to show charging status and add visual effects in supported games.

Inside, the phone runs on the MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra chip and supports up to 12GB of RAM with memory extension, according to Xiaomi’s global specification page. The rear camera setup combines a 50MP AI dual-camera system with an 8MP front camera. The handset is also rated IP64 for dust and splash resistance, and Xiaomi says it will receive six years of security updates and four Android version upgrades. In Indonesia, the Redmi 17 starts at Rp2,899,000 for the 4GB/128GB model, with 6GB/128GB and 6GB/256GB versions also available in Black, Deep Blue, Oak Green and Lotus Purple.
