Xiaomi launches Redmi 17C 5G with emphasis on battery life and multimedia features

Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi 17C 5G, a budget smartphone prioritising battery endurance and media use, featuring a 6.9-inch display, a 6000mAh battery, and 5G connectivity, with plans to expand availability beyond Singapore.

Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi 17C 5G, a low-cost handset that brings fifth-generation mobile connectivity to a line built around large screens and long battery life. The phone follows the 4G version and pairs a 6.9-inch display with a 6,000mAh battery, signalling that endurance and media use are the main priorities rather than outright performance.

According to Xiaomi’s specifications, the Redmi 17C 5G uses a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chip with 4GB of LPDDR4X memory. Storage options are 64GB or 128GB using UFS 2.2, and a dedicated microSD slot remains available for expansion. The official specification sheet also confirms HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, IP64 protection and a 3.5mm headphone socket, a feature that is increasingly rare on budget phones.

The screen is an IPS LCD panel with HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, which should make scrolling and interface movement feel smoother than on standard 60Hz displays. Xiaomi lists a peak brightness of 810 nits. The camera set-up is basic, with a 50-megapixel rear sensor and an 8-megapixel front camera in a teardrop notch. The phone will be sold in black, purple and brown, with the latter using a synthetic leather finish.

The device has launched first in Singapore, where Xiaomi has priced it at S$279, or about $220, according to reports from GSMArena and other tech publications. Xiaomi says more markets will follow in the coming weeks, but it has not yet given a timetable for Europe. That leaves the eventual euro price uncertain, including whether the handset will reach Spain.
