Metabones launches updated Speed Booster and Smart Adapter models for Fujifilm X-mount cameras, incorporating TruePDAF technology to enhance autofocus and in-body stabilisation, promising improved performance across popular Fujifilm models.
Metabones has refreshed its Fujifilm X-mount range with four new Canon EF adapters, adding updated Speed Booster and Smart Adapter models for stills and cinema use. The company says the new hardware is aimed at improving phase-detection autofocus and in-body image stabilisation on supported Fujifilm bodies, while keeping compatibility with a broad set of EF lenses.
The line-up comprises the EF-X mount T Speed Booster ULTRA 0.71x II+, the EF-X mount T Smart Adapter II+, and cinema versions of both. According to Metabones, the key addition is TruePDAF Technology, which stores profile data for more than 100 lenses in firmware. When a supported lens is detected, the adapter signals the camera with extra metadata intended to improve autofocus behaviour on Fujifilm models that support PDAF, including the X-H series, X-T2 and later, and X-Pro2 and newer.
Metabones says existing Mark II customers can obtain the new behaviour through a free firmware update to version 1.70, rather than buying new hardware. The company also describes the revised II+ platform as using the same processor as last year’s cinema adapters, with additional memory reserved for future expansion. For older Mark I products, a reduced 1.70 firmware build is also available, although Metabones says those units are now at a hardware limit for further autofocus gains.
The Speed Booster ULTRA models continue to use a 5-element, 4-group optical design with tantalum-based glass. Metabones says this reduces the Fujifilm X crop factor from 1.5x to 1.07x and increases effective aperture by one stop, making full-frame lenses wider and brighter on X-mount bodies. The cinema versions add a positive-locking mechanism intended to prevent play during focusing or zooming, along with features such as T-stop display, smooth iris control and support for both IBIS and optical image stabilisation.
Pricing starts at USD399 for the Smart Adapter II+ and rises to USD699 for the CINE Speed Booster ULTRA II+. Metabones says the products will be sold through its worldwide reseller network and its own web store, with the CINE Speed Booster available from September 2026. The company also lists Amazon and B&H Photo among its retail channels.
