Elecom unveils two new slim magnetic power banks in Japan, featuring thermal control, USB Power Delivery, and real-world compatibility, advancing portable charging technology for mobile and gaming users.
Elecom has introduced two slim magnetic power banks in Japan, both aimed at users who want wireless charging without the bulk of a conventional battery pack. According to the company’s announcement on 26 August, the new models will go on sale in late August and are built to attach to the back of a compatible smartphone with magnets, including use with MagSafe cases.
The larger model has a 5,000mAh capacity and is about 8.5mm thick, while the smaller 3,000mAh version is roughly 6.2mm thick and lighter at about 85g. ITmedia reported that the 5,000mAh unit weighs about 120g and supports Qi2 wireless charging at up to 15W, alongside USB Power Delivery input and output of up to 20W. The 3,000mAh model offers wireless charging at up to 7.5W and USB Type-C charging at up to 10W.
Elecom says the 5,000mAh version also includes a new “Thermal Select” function, which can be enabled by holding the power button to reduce heat build-up during charging. Both models include temperature monitoring and abnormality detection, with automatic shut-off designed to reduce risk if something goes wrong. The company also says the packs support pass-through charging, allowing a phone and the battery itself to be charged at the same time.
The 5,000mAh model can also be used with Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite, although Elecom notes that some operating modes may prevent play while charging. The company adds that the Switch 2 and Switch are not supported when used together with their docks. For air travel, Elecom says the lithium-ion cells fall within the 160Wh limit and can be carried in cabin baggage in quantities of up to two units.
The range is split between versions supplied with a short USB Type-C cable and versions sold without one. Elecom is also positioning the products under its THINK ECOLOGY label, saying they meet internal environmental criteria that include recycled materials, responsibly sourced paper and packaging designed to improve transport efficiency. The company first released a Qi2-compatible magnetic battery in 2025, and the new launch appears to extend that line with thinner designs and broader output options.
