Xiaomi unveils the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G, featuring a 6.83-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chipset, and a massive 10,000mAh battery, setting a new standard for mid-range smartphones in international markets.
Xiaomi has begun rolling out the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G in selected overseas markets, positioning the handset as the most ambitious model in its new Note 17 family. In Japan, the phone starts at JPY 79,980 for the 8GB + 256GB version and rises to JPY 99,980 for the 8GB + 512GB model, while local reports also point to a broader launch window that could include India on 15 September. The device is offered in Cloudbrush, Purple and Black, with some listings also mentioning Green as a regional option.
The specification sheet is unusually aggressive for a mid-range Redmi model. According to Xiaomi’s launch materials and coverage of the unveiling, the phone uses a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. It also supports HDR10+, Dolby Vision, 12-bit colour and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, alongside Wet Touch Technology 2.0 and 3,840Hz PWM dimming.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage, with some reporting noting dynamic RAM expansion for higher apparent memory headroom. Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 handles the software, with AI features such as AI Eraser Pro, AI Reflection Removal and AI Sky. Xiaomi also says Google Gemini support is included, though availability depends on market and software build.
The headline feature is the 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which Xiaomi says is built for long-term endurance and can deliver up to three days of use, with 100W wired charging and 27W reverse wired charging. The company also claims durability ratings up to IP68, while Japanese launch coverage cites IP69K protection as well. For imaging, the phone uses a 50-megapixel main camera with optical stabilisation, an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 32-megapixel selfie camera, all with 4K video recording at 30fps.
