The latest Calibre 9.14 release enhances its AI-assisted features with new book-cover generation styles, improves usability, and addresses critical security vulnerabilities, continuing its steady update pace across platforms.
Calibre 9.14, the latest stable release of the open-source e-book manager, has arrived with a stronger emphasis on AI-assisted tools, security fixes and small usability improvements. The update follows Calibre 9.13 by about three weeks and continues the project’s steady release rhythm across GNU/Linux, macOS and Windows, according to the release note highlighted by 9to5Linux and recent coverage of the previous version by OMG Ubuntu and Linuxiac.
The most visible addition is expanded AI support for book-cover generation. Calibre now lets users create covers in several styles, including romance, science fiction and pulp fiction, while also adding Anthropic and Grok backends for Claude and Grok models. The developer has dropped the GitHub backend. The release also refines the Edit book workflow with a floating image preview in the file browser, and it makes tag searches ignore accents, which should help users working with multilingual metadata.
Several bugs and regressions have been fixed. Among them are an off-by-one problem in Edit book’s “Jump to class” feature linked to the @charset rule, broken hyperlinks in labels on some Linux systems, and two regressions introduced in Calibre 9.11 that affected HTML metadata reading and Folder device configuration. Calibre 9.14 also hardens file handling in FB2 input and MOBI output, and improves the undo-delete-books process by adding a progress bar when many books are restored.
The Content server received important security and stability work as well. According to the release notes, the update fixes a missing first line in comments, closes a remote code execution issue for authenticated users, addresses a cross-site scripting flaw in the legacy book-details page, and removes several arbitrary file write paths. Calibre 9.14 also corrects a broken “Show in store” action in Get books, fixes Kindle lockscreen cover handling for images with empty EXIF records, and adds support for The Golfer’s Journal while improving several existing news sources.
