Lenovo unveils the ThinkPad Rollable XD at CES 2026, a unique rollable laptop that extends vertically and features on-device AI capabilities, signalling a new direction in flexible computing devices.
Lenovo has used CES 2026 to show off one of its most unusual concept laptops yet: the ThinkPad Rollable XD. According to Lenovo’s own announcement, the machine starts as a 13.3-inch notebook and extends vertically to almost 16 inches, giving it extra screen height rather than the wider layout used by most larger laptops. That approach is meant to suit scrolling-heavy work, from web pages and social feeds to spreadsheets and long documents.
The design builds on Lenovo’s earlier rollable PC efforts, but the company says this version takes a different route with an “out folding” structure and a transparent rear cover. Lenovo and Corning have co-developed a 180-degree Gorilla Glass Victus 2 lid that exposes part of the rolling mechanism and allows information from the inward-rolled panel to remain visible when closed. Reported images and video from the show floor suggest the OLED panel sits behind the clear glass section, giving the prototype a more technical, less conventional appearance than the aluminium-bodied predecessor.
Lenovo is also pitching the device as an AI-focused workstation for hybrid professionals. The company says the concept includes live translation, a voice assistant and multi-modal interactions when the lid is shut. That places it firmly in the same broad CES trend as other laptop makers, which are pairing novel hardware with on-device AI features designed for meetings, travel and content creation.
For now, the ThinkPad Rollable XD remains a concept rather than a commercial product, and Lenovo has not given pricing or shipping details. The comparison most likely to frame expectations is its earlier ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable AI PC, which reached the market at a premium price of $3,299, suggesting any production version of the new model would also sit at the high end of the laptop market.
