Oppo’s Reno 16 Pro combines a compact design, impressive battery life, and a creator-focused rear display accessory, setting it apart in the mid-range smartphone market with a focus on content creation and distinctive styling.
OPPO’s Reno 16 Pro is trying to do two jobs at once. On one side it is a compact upper mid-range phone with a large battery, a high-resolution camera system and fast charging. On the other, it is being pushed as a creator-focused device with an optional magnetic rear display accessory called the Bubble, which turns the main cameras into a front-facing shooting setup. Android Authority said that combination gives the phone a clearer identity than most rivals, even if the add-on looks more experimental than essential.
The Bubble is the headline feature, and it is easy to see the appeal. According to Android Authority, the tiny screen works mainly as a viewfinder for the rear cameras, making it easier to vlog or take selfies with the better lenses on the back. The accessory connects through a magnetic case, but the review said the attachment feels too weak for confidence in daily use. Setup is simple enough, with swipe-based controls for camera access, settings and backgrounds, but the reviewer found the experience limited by the lack of more advanced shooting modes and palm-shutter support.
That limitation matters because OPPO is clearly leaning into content creation. Android Central reported that the Reno 16 Pro includes a 50-megapixel front camera alongside a 200-megapixel main sensor and dual 50-megapixel rear cameras, with autofocus across the system and 4K video at up to 60fps. Digital Camera World said the camera package is aimed at social media users, with a strong emphasis on AI imaging tools, Pop-style filters and other editing functions. In practice, Android Authority found the daylight results strong, with pleasing colour and good detail, although the ultrawide lens and telephoto performance fell away in poorer light.
The hardware design also tries to stand out, though not always successfully. Android Authority described the 6.32-inch phone as compact for 2026, but also said its styling feels heavily influenced by iPhone design language. Android Central highlighted the holographic rear effect on the back, while Digital Camera World noted the more distinctive Pop White finish. Across the reports, the consistent theme is that OPPO has built a small handset with an unusual visual identity, but one that may divide opinion rather than win it over immediately.
Performance is a little more conventional. Android Authority said the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super is competent rather than class-leading, with smooth everyday behaviour but weaker benchmark results than some rivals. The same review found that the phone could stay impressively stable under certain graphics tests, although more demanding gaming scenarios still exposed its mid-tier limits. Digital Camera World also said the device is fine for routine use but not among the fastest options available. That balance fits the rest of the product: polished, capable and clearly below true flagship territory.
Battery life and charging remain some of the Reno 16 Pro’s strongest practical assets. Android Authority reported a 6,700mAh silicon-carbon battery in some markets, while European models get 6,000mAh, plus 80W wired charging and 55W PPS support. Android Central likewise said the phone skips wireless charging, which may disappoint buyers used to newer premium devices. OPPO is promising long-term software support through 2032, but Android Authority noted that the handset also arrives with preloaded apps and some features that may be more appealing to niche creators than to mainstream buyers. At a recommended £899, or £749 on promotion, the Reno 16 Pro looks thoughtful and well-equipped, but not quite persuasive enough to be an easy recommendation for everyone.
