POCO has announced the launch of its F9 Ultra on 1 September, featuring a flagship-worthy blend of high-end gaming performance, display technology, and multimedia capabilities in a move that disrupts traditional flagship-phone expectations.
POCO has confirmed that its F9 series will launch on 1 September, with the F9 Ultra positioned as the range’s most ambitious model and the one most clearly aimed at mobile gaming. The device is being pitched as more than a performance machine, with POCO also highlighting endurance, entertainment and imaging as part of its flagship brief, according to the company’s launch material and product pages echoed by GSMArena.
At the centre of that pitch is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with VisionBoost D8 and a cooling system built around a 6,300 sq mm loop heat pipe area, 17,820 sq mm of graphite and a raised 3D chipset structure. POCO says that combination can lower SoC temperature by up to 3°C, while WildBoost optimisation is designed to manage frame pacing, thermals and power use depending on the game and target frame rate. The phone is also said to support native 185fps gameplay in 24 titles, with selected games able to reach 165fps.
The display and battery hardware are equally prominent. The F9 Ultra uses a 6.9-inch 185Hz AMOLED panel and, according to POCO, is the first phone globally to adopt the M11 display panel, which raises luminous efficiency by 20%. The company claims peak brightness of 4,500 nits in mixed scenarios and up to 10,000 nits at 1% APL. Power comes from an 8,050mAh silicon-carbon battery with 16% silicon content and an energy density of 809Wh/L, backed by 100W wired charging and 50W wireless HyperCharge.
POCO is also leaning on audio and imaging to broaden the device’s appeal. The F9 Ultra is said to feature Sound by Bose, dual symmetrical 1115D speakers and a dedicated 1620 woofer in a 2.1-channel arrangement. Its camera system comprises a 200-megapixel main sensor with optical image stabilisation, a 50-megapixel 5x periscope telephoto camera with OIS, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 32-megapixel front camera. That gives the phone a more conventional flagship spec sheet than a pure gaming handset, even if performance remains the headline attraction.
