Minisforum’s 895D7 outperforms Steam Machine in 4K gaming with AMD’s latest GPU

Minisforum’s 895D7 compact gaming PC, featuring AMD’s Ryzen 9 8945HX and a 16GB Radeon RX 9060 XT, proves significantly faster than Valve’s Steam Machine in demanding 4K titles, highlighting a new benchmark for small-form-factor gaming desktops.

Minisforum’s 895D7 has emerged as a notably capable compact gaming PC, especially in configurations that pair AMD’s Ryzen 9 8945HX with a low-profile Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB graphics card. In a recent comparison run by ETA Prime with SteamOS installed, the machine was tested against Valve’s Steam Machine and came out comfortably ahead in demanding 4K titles.

The gap was most obvious in graphically heavy games. Notebookcheck said the Minisforum system was up to 44% faster in Cyberpunk 2077, averaging 26 frames per second at 4K on Ultra settings, versus 19fps for the Steam Machine. In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the advantage rose to 77% at 4K on the Very High preset, while Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered reportedly showed the clearest separation, with the 895D7 delivering 127% better performance.

That result is not especially surprising. The Steam Machine uses an 8GB RDNA 3 GPU, which is not well suited to 4K gaming, whereas the Minisforum build uses an RDNA 4 card with 16GB of memory. Tom’s Hardware’s testing of the Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB has previously shown that the card is a strong performer for both 1440p and 4K gaming, with a design that aims to balance power use and frame rates without moving into high-end pricing.

The trade-off is cost. According to Notebookcheck, the 895D7 configuration with 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD is priced at $1,639, around $600 more than the $1,049 Steam Machine. Minisforum’s system is also taller, even if it remains compact, while Valve’s machine is shorter. For buyers who want a small Linux-based gaming PC and are willing to pay more, the Minisforum appears to offer considerably more headroom.
