Huawei has opened reservations in China for the Mate XT 2, its next tri-fold handset, ahead of a launch set for 7 September. Listings on the company’s own store have exposed the main configurations, new colour options and a higher-end edition that adds a privacy-focused display, signalling that Huawei is again aiming the device at the premium end of the market.
According to the product pages reported by Chinese and technology outlets, the phone will come with 16GB of RAM across the range, paired with 512GB, 1TB or 2TB of storage. A 1TB model with the privacy display is listed, as is a top-tier 2TB version bundled with a stylus. The 2TB package is said to be available only in purple, while the other versions are offered in black, white and purple. Pre-orders require a 1,000 yuan deposit, with final payment opening on 7 September after 14:45 local time and shipping promised before 31 October.
The privacy edition uses what Huawei calls the Spirit Shield Privacy Display, designed to narrow viewing angles so people nearby can see less of what is on screen. That feature is more notable on a tri-fold device than on a conventional phone, because the Mate XT 2 is expected to open out to roughly 10 inches. Reports also say the company has moved away from the earlier Z-shaped folding design to an inward-folding structure that protects the main flexible panel when the handset is closed, with a separate outer screen for everyday use.
Other reported specifications point to a Kirin 9050 Pro chip, a battery of more than 6,000mAh, 100W wired charging and wireless charging support. The camera system is tipped to include a main sensor of about 1/1.28 inches, an ultra-wide lens, a periscope telephoto camera and Huawei’s Red Maple multispectral system. Pricing has not been confirmed, but the presence of a 2TB model suggests Huawei intends to keep the Mate XT 2 firmly in ultra-premium territory. HarmonyOS 7 is also expected to debut at the same event.
