The new K2 Ultra 8K and K8 Ultra 8K models combine aluminium build, hot-swappable switches, and high polling rates at a surprising €134.99, redefining the budget premium keyboard market.
Keychron’s latest K-series boards show how far the company has pushed the idea of a premium mechanical keyboard without a premium price. The K2 Ultra 8K and K8 Ultra 8K both combine aluminium construction, hot-swappable switches, wireless connectivity and unusually high polling rates, while keeping the design restrained enough for office use as well as gaming.
The two models differ mainly in layout. The K2 Ultra 8K uses a 75% format, keeping the function row and arrow cluster while trimming the overall footprint for smaller desks. The K8 Ultra 8K adopts a tenkeyless layout, removing the number pad but preserving a fuller typing experience. In practice, both aim at users who want fewer compromises than a compact 60% board, but less bulk than a full-size keyboard.
Reviewers across TechRadar, GameRevolution and PC Gamer all pointed to the same core strengths: a CNC-machined aluminium chassis, double-shot PBT keycaps, hot-swappable sockets and support for Keychron’s Web Launcher software. That browser-based tool allows remapping, macro creation and RGB adjustment, and also adds more advanced controls such as bounce-time tuning and SOCD behaviour. The boards support three connection modes: USB-C, 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth.
Keychron says the wireless design can deliver up to 760 hours of battery life, although that figure is based on Bluetooth with RGB switched off, so real-world endurance will be lower if lighting is enabled. The left-side USB-C port and side-mounted connection switch may suit some desks better than others, and reviewers noted that the opaque PBT keycaps limit how much RGB light shines through. Even so, the overall impression is of a sturdy, quiet and well-finished keyboard that feels more expensive than its asking price.
That price is €134.99 for both models, with ISO and ANSI layouts available. Keychron is also offering the boards through its usual retail partners, including Currys and Amazon, while shipping from the company’s own store adds a small charge that is partly offset by a limited discount.
