The tech giant plans to cut around 3,000 roles in India amid a broader global restructuring, reflecting a strategic pivot towards artificial intelligence and cloud investments.
Oracle is reportedly preparing a fresh wave of job cuts in India, with the country expected to absorb a sizeable share of a wider global restructuring. According to The Times of India, the company is planning to eliminate about 3,000 roles in India from 1 September, although Moneycontrol separately reported that the process could begin in mid-September. The precise teams affected have not been made public, and people familiar with the matter told Moneycontrol that even some managers do not yet have full visibility over the final list or the timetable.
If the reported cuts go ahead, they would remove roughly a tenth of Oracle’s 30,000-strong Indian workforce. Oracle has major operations across Bengaluru, Noida, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune, making India a central location for engineering, cloud and support work. The reported reduction would add to a year of repeated workforce cuts in the country, after earlier reports in March said Oracle had already trimmed nearly 12,000 India-based positions.
The broader restructuring appears to be linked to a sharp shift in spending towards artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure. Livemint reported that Oracle is redirecting expenditure ahead of the new quarter, while Tom’s Hardware said the company has been funding data-centre expansion through debt and equity after a heavy rise in capital spending. That outlet, citing Business Insider, said Oracle had already carried out 21,000 full-time job cuts in fiscal 2026 as part of a $2.1 billion restructuring programme, with more reductions now under discussion.
Oracle’s hiring and staffing changes have also been felt beyond existing employees. The New Indian Express reported that the company withdrew campus offers and internships from engineering students at institutions including the IITs, NITs and BITS Pilani after global layoffs tied to restructuring and AI spending. That points to a wider retrenchment rather than a limited India-specific exercise.
The scale of the cuts appears to have widened over the past year. Livemint said Oracle employed about 141,000 people as of 31 May 2026, down from roughly 162,000 a year earlier, with sales and marketing among the hardest-hit functions. The Economic Times also reported that around 10,000 jobs had already been cut in India, including roles in technology teams and Oracle Financial Software Services, as the company continues to push into AI infrastructure.
